Five Years

Five Years

On a perfect fall day of November 11th 2011, in a beautifully decorated cobble stone and wood cabin in a forrest not far from Nashville Tennessee; I married my best friend. In human years, our union is still a young child... in dog years, it's a different story. But thinking back to that day, it feels like we've been together for ages.

Remembering the surreal feeling I had that morning as I (who has never been a morning person) was up bright and early in excitement.

The last breakfast I ate as a single man was a local cracker barrel with my groomsman–and it wasn't short of comic relief. To share that moment with these specific brothers was indeed an honor. Afterwards, like a child on christmas eve, I hurried to get dressed and groom myself for this special day.

As much as that day, and particularly the night before, was also filled with stressful things; those things all became a sudden blur the moment I laid eyes on my wife to be in that wedding dress. What a moment of just wow. A peace and joy came over me, as it was humbling to think that this amazing and incredibly beautiful (inside and out) woman was choosing to spend her life with me–as my wife! I felt then, and have for the past five years, so blessed to have this honor.

"For richer or for POORER..." my wife, in her lovely sense of humor repeated this part of the vows. This was followed by a little laughter from those that totally got in on an inside joke. Yes, we started our marriage with pretty much nothing and as we look back, God has been so faithful to us. He has blessed us in so many ways and provided above and beyond our every need.

And as I spend the day reminiscing and romancing with my wife, I will feel as blessed today as I did on the first day we said those simple words "I do." Here's to five years together and many more.
